Why do we use flavors in carp fishing? Put simply, flavors send carp chemical signals that they associate with food. As highly solluble substances (some more than others certainly), flavors disperse instantaneously underwater as soon as your baits get put in and thus they start drawing fish in. How can one judge the efficience of a flavor? There are quite a few factors like composition, concentration or dosage needed. Just as well as they attract carp, if misused, flavors can also scare them away. Because it is a seemingly easy concept, most anglers tend to rely a bit too much on flavor. How many times has each of us heard "I caught on strawberries" or "I smashed them on squid"? Most anglers would indeed believe they caught because of the flavor. In some situations they may very well be right. We at Select Baits however firmly argue that a good bait is not simply a carrier for a specific flavor. In boilies for instance our experience has lead us to believe that the base mix is at the very least, if not altogether, more important. We would however be foolish to ignore flavors and thus we have designed and recommend the use of flavors for all our boilies. We do however draw your attention on use - there is no silver bullet, in some situations one flavor might very well be better than another. These variations are something normal, everyone has to face them, and they are to a high degree a big factor of what makes fishing so captivating. Bearing in mind this diversity we recommend that flavors be used rigurously under the recommended doses. When you conduct tests of your own, do experiment and perhaps go for a higher dose (particularly for short sessions), but be aware there might be consequences. Some flavors might wash off faster than you expect, some might seemingly be masked but other ingredients, but make no mistake, fish will pick up on them. If you're going for a quick hit, the upper dosage of a flavor is recommendable. If you aim for long sessions where you try to select the bigger fish, or bait up more, we recommend a lower (perhaps even minimal) dosage of flavor. Don't be afraid of under-doing it, if your bait is good, you will still catch! Given this very complicated puzzle, there probably is no better recommendation letter for a flavor than its results over time. Select Baits offers you high quality flavors which give off an all-natural signal. Time-tested flavors such as Squid & Octopus, Monster Crap, Scopex, Frankfurter, GLM, Cranberry or Tuttiy Frutti are guaranteed to produce results. Fish them well, fish them with confidence and they will produce the goods!
